CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. will launch his own festival of love for thousands of his scholars beginning Sunday in Barangay Sindalan, this city.

Some 2,000 college scholars from the third district’s four towns and one city will receive grants for the second semester of the school year 2011-2012 amounting to about P7.2 million, drawn from the lawmaker’s priority development assistance fund or (PDAF).

ARTISTS in Angeles City have joined the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) in celebrating the National Arts Month in February, pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 683 issued in 1991.

This year, the NCCA celebrates the arts month with the theme, “Tradition and Innovation.” Angeles City adapts the local theme, Mana, which means Legacy.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- To prevent human trafficking and illegal recruitment, the Regional Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (Riacat) in Central Luzon is also adopting the departure guidelines for international-bound passengers in all airports and seaports in the country.

The guidelines were set by the Iacat and were based on existing legislation such as Republic Act 9208 (Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003) and Republic Act 8042 (Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995 as amended).

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga -- A Japanese national was found dead inside his room at Clark International Premier School in Barangay CutCut, Angeles City, police said Friday.

Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recommono, Angeles City police director, said Nishimura Yoichi, 69, a stay-in English student of said school, was found lying on his bed at room 113.

He said Yoshiyuki Fujita, 33, a Japanese manager of Clark International Premier School and duty security guard Elejor Tubos, knocked at the victim’s room to remind him that he is already late for his class.

Angeles hospital receives 3 more dialysis machines

ANGELES CITY -- Some three additional dialysis machines were installed at the Angeles City Renal Care Unit (ACRCU), bringing to 18 the total number of medical equipment used for patients suffering from kidney diseases.

Dr. Ramon Jose Suarez, ACRCU head, said the new machines will supplement the current operation of the renal center and accommodate more patients undergoing dialysis treatment.

“As of January 2012, we were able to have 453 treatments. But with the additional dialysis machines, we are looking at the possibility of serving up to 500 patients a month,” Suarez said.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth will soon deploy some 600 licensed nurses nationwide to act as customers relation staff (CRS).

This was revealed during a press conference at the PhilHealth office in the city, where the state firm’s 17th anniversary was celebrated.

According to PhilHealth executives led by vice president Rodolfo Balog and Branch Manager Arsenia Torres, the deployment of licensed nurses to government hospitals is under the program “PhilHealth Cares” or “PhilHealth Customer Assistance, Relations and Empowerment Staff.”

ANGELES CITY -- Representative Carmelo Lazatin will distribute 30 multi-cabs worth P9 million to different barangays in Angeles City, Mabalacat and Magalang on February 14.

The multi-cabs, worth P280,000 each, will be distributed around 9:30 a.m. at the lawmaker’s headquarters at Lazatin Farm, Barangay Telabastagan, City of San Fernando.

“The service vehicles would be a big help to our barangays in delivering service to the public,” Lazatin said.

“The service vehicles will also provide easy transportation for the residents in times of emergency,” he added.

SUBIC Bay Freeport – A beach resort here has released over a hundred sea turtle hatchlings on President Benigno Aquino III's birthday.

Mark Dayrit, owner of All Hands Beach Resort, said 60 foreign students from an international school here released the turtles named "PNoy Pawikan" on February 8, the President's 52nd birthday.

All Hands beach resort has become an instant tourist attraction after several batches of sea turtles, locally called Pawikan, were released since December.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Various groups in the province have set a simultaneous clean-up drive along the stretch of the Pampanga River on February 14.

Dubbed "Heart for the River," the activity will be spearheaded by the respective municipalities adjacent to the said river, as previously agreed and approved by mayors in a meeting attended by religious groups and other sectors here.

The clean-up drive aims to save Pampanga River from continuous dumping of domestic garbage by the communities near its embankment.
