Traffic office allocates P279,000 for repainting project

THE Traffic Management Office (TMO) of Dumaguete has allocated about P279,000 for the repainting of pedestrian lanes in the city this month.

TMO officer-in-charge Danilo Atillo said the repainting will be done to make the people aware that there are pedestrian lanes that could help avoid traffic condition in the city.

THE Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Dumaguete City convicted a drug user for keeping two sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, a year ago.

RTC Branch 34 Judge Rosendo Bandal Jr. found Marcial Melon guilty of the offence of illegally possessing shabu, a violation of Section 11, Article 11 of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Indigent kids attend three-day summer camp

ABOUT 90 indigent children from Dumaguete City participated in a three-day Summer Camp activity held at Caliwanagan Beach Resort in Zamboangita town last May 16 to 18.

The camp was aimed to give the indigent children an opportunity to experience camping since most of them cannot afford to join such activity.

Judge Joseph Elmaco and Judge Cenon Voltaire Repollo were appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as RTC judges of Branch 36 and 38, respectively, Judge Rafael Cresencio Tan Jr. told Sun.Star.

THE Dumaguete City Water District (DCWD) will increase the water rate by 15 percent starting this May.

DCWD general manager Esperato Dicen said that from the P120 minimum rate for the first 10 cubic meters of water consumption per month, the minimum rate starting this month will be at P138 or an increase of P18, excluding P20 environment and septage fee.

THE City Government of Dumaguete will build more houses for victims of Tropical Storm Sendong, said Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria.

The mayor told some media outfits that the City, in cooperation with the National Housing Authority (NHA), will buy a 7.5-hectare lot in Barangay Banilad owned by the Tale family for the relocation site of more than 1,300 families whose houses were washed out by flashfloods last year.

THE Department of Energy (DOE) has allocated about P3 million for the restoration of some areas damaged by Tropical Storm Sendong in the municipality of Valencia.

THE Dumaguete City Government, the Diocese of Dumaguete and the National Secretariat for Social Action – Caritas Filipinas Foundation Inc. (CBCP-NASSA) inked Wednesday a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for a joint housing project.

Dumaguete City Councilor Nilo Sayson said the “Transit Shelter Project” will cater to the victims of Tropical Storm Sendong in Dumaguete City.

Seventy units of core transit shelters will be constructed by the
Diocese of Dumaguete, through its Social Action Team in a 5,000 square meter relocation site at Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City.

739 Sendong victims receive financial assistance

ABOUT 739 beneficiaries of Tropical Storm Sendong in Dumaguete City received financial assistance from the City Government last April 26 2012.

The City Government of Dumaguete allocated about 1.8 million pesos of financial assistance.

Administrative officer of the Department of Social Welfare and Development of Dumaguete Lanete Saad said the City Government is distributing the cash aid starting today, Friday, until next week.

Saad said the financial assistance is amounting P2,500 to P5,000.
