THE Social Security System (SSS) filed a motion to withdraw the case filed against five owners of a school in the Island Garden City of Samal who allegedly failed to remit more than P300,000 worth of members' contribution.

Eileen dela Cruz, SSS Davao accounts officer, submitted an affidavit of desistance before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 15 on February 2.

5 illegal settlers released from jail

FIVE residents who were detained for defying a court order to vacate their illegal settlement were released from jail Friday morning.

Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 14 Judge George Omelio, in an order, said the illegal houses of Imelda Etom, Joan Fuentes, Pacita Garces, Guillerma Caparas and Laurel Tuado were no longer found inside the premises of Monteverde, Agdao.

The five respondents were jailed at the Sta. Ana police station since the evening of January 27 until morning of February 3 for violation of Section 8, Rule 71 of Rules of Court.

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) OIC Governor Mujib Hataman has given until February 10 this year school supervisors and superintendents under the Department of Education (DepEd) in the region to submit list of teachers in their areas of responsibility.

This, Hataman said, will help determine teachers who are "fake" or those with highly questionable transcript of records.

2 motorists slain in highway ambush

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Unidentified gunman shot dead two motorists along the highway in Kabacan, North Cotabato, past midnight Friday, a police official said.

One of the slain motorists was a relative of one of the influential clans in Datu Montawal town in Maguindanao, according to reports of Superintendent Joseph Semillano, chief of the Kabacan Police Office.

The slain victim, however, was immediately retrieved from the site by his relatives and was buried Friday, Semillano said.

Daily average of dog bites now at 75

THE City Health Office (CHO) recorded an increase in the daily average of dog bite incidence in Davao City in 2011 as compared to the previous years.

Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, CHO chief, in Thursday's I-Speak forum at the City Hall, said from the daily average of 40-60 dog bites recorded in the city in the previous years, the daily average increased to 75 bites per day last year.

"Kung taas ang kaso sa mga dog bites sa syudad, ang tsansa (If cases of dog bites increase, the chance) is rabies infection will also increase," Villafuerte said.

A market update released by the Trade Facilitation Office (TFO) Canada indicated that the Philippines only ranked eighth among the 16 TFO client countries that were successful in increasing exports to Canada despite the global economic crisis.

Philippine exports to Canada reached $888 million between 2009 and 2010. It followed Peru, Brazil, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore.

Agriculture department to replicate MRDP in Luzon
