IN SUPPORT to the reform agenda of President Benigno Aquino III, two lawmakers are proposing for an inquiry on the possible election reforms that should be made in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm).

Cagayan de Oro Representative Rufus Rodriguez (2nd District) and Abante Mindanao Representative Maximo Rodriguez jointly filed House Resolution 2252 that urges to foster transparency in the region and to reflect and ensure more truthful participation in Armm elections.

New high school to open Misamis Oriental

MAYOR Juliet Uy led recently the ground breaking of the Tambobong-Balacanas National High School (TBNHS) in Villanueva town, Misamis Oriental.

This came after the Department of Education (DepEd) approved the creation of the said school in response to the growing student population in the area.

Once construction of TBNHS is finished, there would now be three secondary schools in the town.

Energy firm Steag State Power Inc. (SPI), which owns and operates a power plant here, will provide the materials for the construction of a school building.

Sendong survivors in Iligan avail of Solar Cooker

ILIGAN CITY -- A fabricated Solar Cooker prototype was recently donated to survivors of Tropical Storm Sendong who are temporarily sheltered at the Siao Box evacuation site in Luinab.

The donor, EG Solar Germany, in partnership with the Philippine Electronics Communication Institute of Technology (PECIT) of Butuan City, turned over the unit to the site's camp managers, done in coordination with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) Lanao del Norte Provincial Office.

Kitaotao hydropower plant to help ease Mindanao power crisis

MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon -- Hedcor Bukidnon Inc. and the municipality of Kitaotao is now working to develop a hydroelectric plant, which would help ease nagging problems on power shortage in Mindanao every summer season.

Gregorio Jabonillo, Hedcor’s vice president for business development, said this run-of-river hydroelectric project will harness the Sita and Simod rivers in Kitaotao town in Bukidnon, as a source of power with a combined installed capacity of 28.2 megawatts.

‘Sendong’ survivors air concerns in a forum

MORE than 300 survivors of Tropical Storm Sendong who are temporarily housed at different relocation sites were given hope in a community forum and consultation held Wednesday at the covered court of Tibasak in Barangay Macasandig.

Cagayan de Oro Mayor Vicente Y. Emano who conducted the forum spent half day entertaining questions and clarifications from the wary crowd.

During the consultation, Emano announced that 300 permanent relocation houses will be made available in Barangay Indahag.

He said qualified beneficiaries will be raffled next week.

A MAN is in critical condition after an unidentified suspect shot him on Sunday evening in Valencia City, Bukidnon.

STARTING today, Monday, journalists in Cagayan de Oro will be celebrating the Press Freedom Week.

As in the past years, the week-long celebration will start with a Mass at 6 a.m. today at the Press Freedom Monument to be followed by a motorcade and later, a fellowship breakfast at the Cagayan de Oro Press Club.

And same with the previous years, part of the celebration is a sports fest and nightly fellowships where journalists mingle and chat with each other, never mind if they are direct competitors. The point here is, to promote camaraderie among the members of the media.

FAMOUS Cagayan de Oro designer Benjie Manuel has again conquered the catwalk and showed off his extraordinary creations in a graduation fashion show dubbed “Dare Alla Luce” held last Sunday at Limketkai Rotunda.

Manuel said 92 models graced the runway, 89 of whom were graduates of the 15th Benjie S. Manuel modeling workshop.

Three of the models, he says, were mothers of the graduates. Manuel said the fashion show was his way of saying ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ to all mothers.

AN ENTRAPMENT operation was conducted by operatives of the Regional Special Operation Group (RSOG) that led to the arrest of a female “pimp” on Thursday at a drive-in motel along Kauswagan Highway in Cagayan de Oro.

Police Inspector Patrick Jess P. Paguirigan, RSOG chief, said the 43-year-old suspected pimp identified as a certain “Maricar” (real name withheld), a resident of Mambayan in Balingasag town, Misamis Oriental, was arrested after receiving P5,000 from an RSOG operative who posed as customer in exchange for two female minors believed to be prostitutes.
